LO1- Initial Ideas

Close up i am using this over-exaggerate the detail in movement. Slow/fast shutter-speed will be used to capture still and blurred images to represent the movement of subjects. Wide/narrow aperture will be used to overexpose images to give them more character. Depth of field will be used to emphasise the characters in the image.

I will take pictures of my friends and wild animals to express movement as well as freezing images and taking unusual photos.

LO2 Copyright, release and connect form, legal and ethical
What is copyright?
Copyright is when a certain piece of media is created/taken by a person and it makes them the only person who is allowed to use the piece of media unless he allows other people to use that media.
(protect the intellectual property)
Why is this important?
This is important to us as we can protect our images from being stolen and used by other people.
Gaining permission to use other peoples media.
A release and connect form is a form that allows you or other people use a certain media that is
copyrighted. this allows you to use the image to your own liking.
This form involves models names, what this permission allows you to do, owners name, signatures (this makes the document official). you will also need permissions to take photos from certain private locations.
You are not allowed to use a telephoto lens in public places as you are able to take a photo from a long distance away and the person will never know that a picture of them has been taking.
In public spaces u need to be careful as you may accidentally take pictures of logos and they are affected by copyright.

LO1 David Chang – Doc/fest photographer presentation (LO1)
We will have a presentation by David Chang
David has a ranged style of photography. Everything from Music, Weddings and Portraits to Commercial, Cooperate and Fireworks.

Shutter speed - How long the shutter is open. Speed the photo is taken at

LO1 Photographers Research
Scott Bass
Scott Bass is a photographer from Cambridge, UK who has over seven years of experience in Parkour with the majority of his photographic work centering around the art of movement. Being able to capture motion in a dynamic way, which displays the beauty and skill involved, is a key focus Scott has in his photos.

A) Photographic Category - Sports
B) Purpose - This photo is for online use mainly for personal use but may be used for sport advertising. These kind of photos are generally used for explaining who and what the person does in this sport. The photo would more likely be used for media purposes then any official documents but may also be used for a sports magazine or an online blog.
C) Image Analysis - The focus of the picture is in the bottom third of the photo making this photo use rule of thirds, the focal points guide us to the focus of the photo. The lighting of this photo blocks out most of the colour making the focus of the photo look almost like a silouette . The whole photo is in focus but our vision still gets dragged down towards the important part of the picture. In the foreground of the image we see a man doing a backflip. The image is a wide shot with a deep depth of field.
The photo is taken with a wide aperture to capture the whole image in focus. The ISO in the image is low key as the image is quite dark therefore being below 400. From my point of view its around 250. The shutter speed used is fast round about 1/125th as the image is "frozen in place".
D) Meaning - The meaning of the photo can be related to anything from expressing yourself to danger and adrenalin of such situations.
Paul Suders
Paul Souders is an American miniature and wildlife photographer who has traveled extensively around the world here we present a series of his images taken in the Arctic, mostly in Svalbard, and Archipelago Halfway between mainland Norway and the north pole.
A) Photographic Category - Nature, Wildlife
B) Purpose - Used in Newspaper articles online to maybe bring attention to global warming or to show the beauty of nature. The photo may be used for advertising traveling or for showing the photographers skill.
C) Image Analysis - The centre of the photo is the natural tunnel in the middle of the ice. The lighting in the photo falls on the side of the ice showing detail and giving the ice a tint. The photo is a wide shot taken from a low angle with a deep depth of field.
The aperture of the photo is wide as the image is taken with a deep depth of field and is all in focus. The ISO used is around 300 as it is dark and the shadows overpower the light in the image. The shutter speed in the image is around 1/25th as it is a still image and didn't have to be taken at a high speed.
D) Meaning - the meaning of this photo can be to show natures beauty.
Nicholas Goodden
He is an award winning London-based urban photographer, Olympus ambassador, founder of the Street Photography London collective. His photography is entirely focused on London through the mediums of London street photography, urban landscape photography and graffiti / street art photography.

C) Image Analysis - The photo is based around a poster in a street that has a very deep meaning to certain people. The photo also has some editing in the form of a filter this changes the colour on the photo and therefore gives it more character. The image is a tilted shot taken from a low angle.
The aperture in the image is wide as the whole photo is in focus. The ISO is over 400 as the image is overexposed therefore making it brighter. The image is still therefore it was taken with a slow shutter speed around 1/25th.

Randy Scott Slavin
New York-based photographer Randy Scott Slavin's work takes on a form that strays from traditional photography of city skylines. Instead of going for the typical view of the landscape format following the horizon line, Slavin opts to decenter the viewer all together by joining hundreds of photographs together to create distorted views of familiar American cityscapes. The series is appropriately named Alternative Perspectives and provides an unprecedented point of view of places like New York City; his photographs evoke a sensation somewhere between myopia, kaleidoscopic psychedelics, and being sucked into a wormhole. Slavin comes as an alternative from the straightforwardness of most other architectural photographers, and reminds us that photography does not always depict things as they actually are.
A) Photographic category - Architecture
B) Purpose - The purpose of the photo is commercial and is used online and in magazines to advertise travel/location or to show the skills of the photographer.
C) Image Analysis - The composition of the image consists of the foreground that is the ground floors of buildings and the background is the tips of the skyscrapers and the sky. The depth of filed used is deep as everything in the photo is in focus. The photo uses a small aperture something like 22 we can tell this from the way the photo is in focus. The lighting used is natural the reflection of light of the buildings brings some colour to the photo making it have more character. The position of the sun gives the sky a very nice effect that blends the light in to a darker sky. The photo uses leading lines going from the bottom of Empire State Building to the centre of the image. The shutter speed used is slow we know this because of the hight quality of the image and the way everything is.frozen in time. The image used the smaller buildings as the frame by wrapping them around the focus point of the image. The image is a wide-shot taken from a low angle then edited .
The image uses a deep depth of field as the whole image is in focus therefore making the aperture wide. The ISO of the image is around 500 as the image is brighter. The shutter speed is 1/25th as there is no blur and the image is still.
D) Meaning - The meaning of the photo is to create an effect that will be appealing to a customer.
